Ganja Yoga: Getting High Before You Flow

It probably seems like a total no-brainer that cannabis and yoga go together so well. If you enjoy lighting up and yoga, chances are that you’ve combined the two activities at least once or twice. Yoga and cannabis have long been vehicles that people hop in to travel down the path of spirituality. Now that recreational and medical use of marijuana is on the rise, so is Ganja Yoga: the use of cannabis in a formal yoga setting. And it’s incredible.

First, we have to give credit where credit is due. Ganja Yoga is the brainchild of a seasoned yogi and San Fran native, Dee Dussault. She has been offering classes in cannabis use and yoga for over a decade and also trains to those who wish to become Ganja Yoga instructors.

Now, you don’t necessarily have to participate in Ganja Yoga in a formal setting. As any yogi will tell you, it’s not about how you practice yoga; it’s just about the fact that you practice! No matter how you roll it up and smoke it, Ganja Yoga is where it’s at.

The mind-body connection

Before you begin any asana (yoga flow), it’s essential to center yourself. Sit still, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. Now, just imagine how much easier that could be if you’ve got a little bit of a THC buzz going in your system?

Some people might have a hard time with yoga because they have trouble finding their “center” and calming their mind enough to focus on their flow. But just one hit before your next session, and you’ll see why cannabis and yoga were a match made in stoner heaven.

All the energy

You know that body-high feeling, right? Where everything inside of you just feels great, and every movement feels exaggerated? During a Ganja Yoga session, you can feel that flow of energy through your body, and it takes your session to a whole new level. Of course, you’ve got to make sure you get the right strain and don’t go overboard with your intake! You want to be able to get up from the child’s pose!

Strains, groups, and time of day (oh my!)

You might have to play around a little bit with different strains to get the best cannabis and yoga flow going. Don’t be deterred if you don’t enjoy a session during the day with ten other people in the room. Some things are just better solo activities! It’ll depend on your personal preference. Who knows, maybe you’ll find some newfound inner peace or an awesome ganja yoga buddy to practice with on weekends.
