Tips For New Cannabis Users

Let’s say you live in California, Colorado, or one of the other states where marijuana is legal for recreational use. You see everyone having a great time while using cannabis; the dispensaries are flowing, the smoke is billowing, the people are munching, and everyone’s happy! Except you, because you’re not hip to the canna-game yet.

There’s a lot to know when it comes to the marijuana game. So, we’ve created a quick and fun little guide to get your way to herbal bliss. Here are the most important things for new cannabis users to know:

Understand the different strains of marijuana

This isn’t like your parent’s weed that was all pretty much the same (and probably not so great). There are three types of marijuana that dispensaries carry, and each one delivers a different experience:

-       Indica: Hailing from the Hindu Kush mountains in India, Indica is the melt-into-your-couch and eat-everything-in-your-kitchen strain of cannabis. It’s known as the strain that gives a “body” high

-       Sativa: If you’ve got things you need to do today, Sativa is going to be your best friend. It’s known for giving users a “mind” high, which provides energy and creativity.

-       Hybrid: Probably pretty obvious, but we’ll break it down for you anyway. Hybrid cannabis is a perfect blend of Indica and Sativa that offers a full-body experience an all-over high.

Get your gear

There are a lot of accessories that come with the cannabis game. Of course, you can be old-fashioned and stick to rolling one up every time you partake, but where’s the fun in that?

Your local dispensary is likely to offer an array of cannabis-using opportunities from edibles, topical creams, and vapes; to herb, dabs, and tinctures. You might think that rolling a joint is always going to be your safest bet because everything else is too intimidating.

Start small

Have a chat with your local budtender and figure out where is best for you to start! You don’t want to play it too safe and never be able to enjoy all that cannabis has to offer and all the different forms – but you don’t want to dive in headfirst and scare yourself off either.

Starting small is especially essential when it comes to edibles because they take a while to kick in – many people think that they’re not working, take more, and then have a bad time. If you don’t believe us, you can find plenty of edible-related horror stories on the internet, like this one published in the New York Times. Luckily, getting too high from edibles is something that’s totally within your control, you just have to know how to do it.
